Chaman Singh - The Snakes Saviour Chaman Singh is the man who is known in Udaipur for his skilled abilities to rescue animals from streets, homes, and jungles. Chaman Singh, who has been working in this field for past 15 years has rescued over 55,000 animals till date and his dedication to keep up the good work is on top gear. The irony is although this one man is doing something that government should have been doing and has no Insurance. “I have contacted many companies and none of them have agreed to do an Insurance on me. I live dangerously and remain vulnerable to attack from irritated animals every day on multiple occasions,” shares Chaman Singh. On asking whether is not afraid of wild animals could harm him or attack to kill, he says, “Wild animals do not harm you, unless you irritate them.” He has been fond of wild animals since early childhood. He saw a snake was killed because he had lost his eyesight and was danger to the village. He wanted to save him but was unable to do so. This is why he took formal training to rescue snakes from a institute in Baroda. Since then, chaman Singh has been catching snakes to leave them back to the jungle. Chaman does this dangerous task free of cost. He also tells people which snake is poisonous and which is not. He has also trained a group of 25-30 girls who rescue snakes on receiving a news and drop them back to the jungle. According to chaman Singh, poisonous snakes found in Rajasthan include Cobra, Russell’s Viper, Common Crate, and Scale Viper. Rest all are poison less. He said that people should rush to hospital if snake has bitten. One should tie a knot of cloth around the affected area to prevent the spreading of poison. He said that more than 50-60 thousand people lose their lives by snake biting in India every year. Girls who are part of Chaman Singh’s snake rescue team include Khushboo Chauhan, divyanshi chauhan, Swati Bhargava, Aditi Bhargava, Saroj Shaktawat, Paridhi Jain, and Mamta Dangi.
