"National Seminar at Geetanjali Pharmacy"

Udaipur: Saturday 18th March, Geetanjali Institute of Pharmacy in association with Department of Science & Technology Govt. of Rajasthan had organized a national seminar on "Geographical Indications Application Filing & Awareness Program". The program marked its beginning by lamp lightning by the key speakers of the seminar; Ministry of Science & Technology New Delhi's Dr. Nitin Kumar Jain and Department of Science & Technology's (Government of Haryana) Rahul Taneja, Dean Geetanjali Dental & Research Institute Dr. Nikhil Verma & Dean and Convener Geetanajli Institute of Pharmacy Dr. Ashok Dashora.
The program started by the welcome speech of Dr. Ashok Dashora welcoming all the guests. First speaker of the seminar discussed about "Industrial Property Geographical Indications" explaining two types of properties as tangible and intangible which further bifurcate as industrial and copyrights. He had also defined value of property & knowledge as value of wealth. He further told us about the types of industrial property as patents, trademarks and design. He had also specified the definition of geographical indication as geographical origin of any product. Agriculture, handicrafts, manufactured and food stuff are types of geographical indications. He had also explained about the steps of registration of a patent which thereby will prevent unauthorized use of registered geographical indications. The second speaker Rahul Taneja talked about the various types of patents as welding, inventive steps and industrial applications. He also told as how one can apply for patents in India and other countries. He had defined some items which do not require patents as atomic energy, traditional abstract theory and scientific theory. He also talked about filing of patents, provisions, specifications and advantages of patents. He told that around 40,000 patents are filed every year from round the world out of which 400 patents are filed by Indians. He also explained about compulsory licenses, trademarks, copyrights and the need of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRC).
The seminar was anchored by Dr. Udichi Kataria and vote of thanks was delivered by the organizing secretary Dr. Virendra Singh.
