Every Indian is proud to be called Indian. It's not always about patriotism. As the National Independence day approaches the patriotic feeling within us starts arousing. My grandfather fought the battle of independence with Gandhiji and refused to take any post in Ministry.
The blood of patriotism runs in my body and I have always followed the path of honesty and truth in my life.
What is true patriotism?
I have always given priority to principles taught by my family. I don't abuse players of my neighbouring countries when India loses its cricket match. I don't fight with people who follow other religions.
I have read in each and every book that our unity lies in the diversity of India. It's really sad to see some people breaking the unity of India by their polluted thoughts and deeds.
Taj's massive attack or Bengaluru attack on scientists proved that we are one. Many countries are facing terrorism these days. India was prime target of terrorists from past many years. The unity with which all Indians stood against terrorism upon all terrorist attacks is actual UNITY.
But what happens today is not unity nor even patriotism. The feel with which we come from watching movies like Airlift, Holiday, Baby doesn't even last for 24 hours. Cricket matches have become less sporty and more of a business.
Indian Cricket Team’s matches are a thriller for fans but fans could be either with their own nation India or even with any other nation. Sports is a field of interest, choice, passion which thereby gives every individual a freedom to support any team or any individual player.
IPL has distributed teams state wise but that doesn't mean a Punjab guy would only support Kings XI Punjab. Similarly, any Indian can support a Pakistani player or any Indian Player.
But, the thing to be kept in our polluted minds is that players do not fight amongst themselves rather they are friendly with each other and greet their opponents with grace. But we as fans fight like cats and dogs for our nation. This is not patriotism. Patriotism tells us to compete with other nations but not like animals rather compete in the field of technology, economy, army, education which could lead to a country’s development.
Patriotism is serving the country for its welfare. And it's a feeling which shall remain throughout the lifetime not only near The Republic day or the Independence Day. Patriotism means responsibility towards one’s own nation. Responsibility in cleanliness, humanity, affection, eco­friendly. These characteristic defines one as being responsible and considerate. Swachta Abhiyaan is a program which will be successful only if every individual is keen in practicing the same. Humanity amongst people is very necessary. First it's up to your neighbours then it comes to other states and then other countries. This will make the country develop and in turn it would truly mean PATRIOTISM.
