This is a Special Day celebrated internationally on 12th May. A great nurse, Florence Nightingale was the founder of this day. This day is celebrated in the memory of Florence Nightingale because she nursed wounded soldiers in war. She nursed them so lovingly and whole heartedly that at night also she used to move around them with Lantern in the hand, without caring of her own health when infection was spread all over in the hospital.
She was born on 12th May 1820 in Florence in Italy. She was beautiful and rich too. After her education she decided to go ahead in this field in 1844. From her childhood itself she was interested in this nursing profession. She also decided not to marry because that would be an obstacle for her services in nursing profession Her father was William Nightingale and her mother was Francis Nightingale. Her parents did not like it but at last they had to permit her to move ahead in this field. She went to London, Rome and Paris to collect some statistical information of this field. For her training of nursing she went to Germany. She went to Main Hospital of London also. In 1859 she wrote books on Notes on Nursing and Notes on Hospital also. In 1853 there was a cremium war which was fought between US and Britain along with France and turkey.
During this war a great number of soldiers were wounded and many died of infection. Hear Florence Nightingale came with a group of 38 nurses to serve the patients. She stepped into the dirty hospital where first she maintained cleanliness then she started to take care of patients. Here rendering her Services whole heartedly with affection made her a celebrity. After this in 1860, a nursing school was established in Britain. After this medical and sanitary science departments were opened in Britain. For updation, statistical departments were opened. Officials of health education and Welfare Department of America proposed for this day to be celebrated then president of America D D Eisen howard gave permission for this day to be celebrated as International Nurses Day. First it was celebrated in 1953. By International Nurse committee it was celebrated first in 1965. Later in 1974 it was decided to celebrate this day on the birthday of Florence Nightingale. For this a nurse should be trained to be able to treat the patient not only physically but also mentally as a friend. She should be able to give mental support and encouragement to the patient. This day is celebrated to give honor to nurses for their valuable Services Coporation and a job in medical field. A doctor or medicine alone cannot treat the patient because the patient needs mental scare also which is imparted to him by a nurse only. Charming smile of a nurse brings confidence in the patient.
