There are many different types of headaches, and they can be an early symptom of a severe illness. Dr. Manish Kulshrestha, Senior Neuro physician of Paras JK Hospital Udaipur, said that there are two types of headache, first primary headache and second secondary headache.
Primary can be caused by pain or problems with the sensitive nerves inside the head. These include blood vessels, muscles of the head, nerves of the head, and neck. These can also be caused by changes in the chemical activity of the scalp. Tension headaches are the most common form of primary headache. In 60-70 percent type of headache, a general feeling of strain felt in the whole head, and in this, the patient may also have complaints like tension or depression. In this type of headache, there are no incidents like nausea, vomiting, or increased discomfort with bright light and sound, as is common in migraine. For its treatment, along with some medicines, psychological and behavioral therapy is also done.
Dr. Kulshrestha said that migraine is the second most common form of primary headache. In this type of headache, the patients complain that they get headaches due to hunger, going in the sun, going to the noise, the smell of some perfume, and this headache is usually from one side or part of the head. Begins. This headache can last from 4 hours to 72 hours. Nausea and vomiting may also occur as the intensity of the headache increases.
If the headache occurs less than eight times in a month, it is called episodic migraine. If it happens more than eight times, it is called chronic migraine. In this type of headache, if the frequency of headache is four times or less in a month, the patient is treated with trigger management and painkillers (headache only). Preventive regular medicine is also given along with the frequency of more than four times.
In Cluster headache, which occurs in one side of the head and mostly occurs in the back part of the eye, due to which one eye becomes smaller and due to this the eyes and nose start to water. This headache usually lasts from 15 minutes to 3 hours. The headache is very intense. In this type of headache, in addition to headache medicine, preventive medicine is also used for some time. Symptoms of secondary headache appear when the head's sensitive nerves are being disturbed for some other reason. Sinus, eye-related diseases, brain infection, any kind of injury, overdose of pain medicine and stroke in the head etc.
Dr. Manish Kulshrestha said that each type of headache is generally based on the patient's history. Special investigations are required only in certain circumstances, such as the sudden onset of headache after the age of 40, or if a patient is having trouble seeing along with the headache or someone has a problem of weight loss with fever. If it is occurring, the secondary headache should be investigated, including MRI, CFS, eye examination, etc. After this, the patient should be given treatment and medicines. So that their problem can be properly diagnosed.
