Brainstorming on Soil and Water Resources Management

Udaipur. A two-day international conference on Soil and Water Resources Management was organized at the College of Technology and Engineering, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture. Soil and water experts from 11 countries participated in this session. In addition to the inaugural and closing sessions, more than 50 research papers were read in six technical sessions and one keynote note lecture in each session. In the inaugural session, Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore, Vice-Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, said the direct relationship between water and soil resources management is linked with productivity and the standard of living of farmers and common people.

 In the first technical session, Dr. Uday Bhan Singh gave the Keynote Lecture, the Director of Water Resources of the Mississippi Watershed of America. After that, Professor Milap Poonia of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, gave a distinguished speech on Remote Sensing and GIS technology's utility in soil and water resource management. Professor H.J. Shiva Prasad of Pantnagar Agricultural University made a presentation on the revival and management of water streams in the hilly regions, which can be equally beneficial in the hilly areas Rajasthan. In today's sessions, Dr. Dean Current of the University of Minnesota, USA, gave information about the unique use of public participation in managing soil and water resources, and with him from the US, Dr. Joey Magnor learned about runoff management from soil management. Giving information about the ongoing projects for water management of Australia and the Government of India, Professor Basant Maheshwari from Western Sidney, Australia, said that since 2012, the Marawi project with Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology is running in Hinta village of Udaipur. Speaking as the honored guest of the closing session, Dr. Prabhakar Nanda of the Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhuneshwar said that it is equally essential to increase the productivity of crops and the productivity of water. Speaking as a distinguished guest, Dr. Mahavir Singh Rajawat from Nigeria said that maintaining soil and water resources is a big challenge. If this is not taken care of in due time, severe consequences will have to be faced in the near future.

Giving information about the recommendations of various sessions of the conference, Dr. Mahesh Kothari said that in the concluding session, more than 500 participants from 11 countries worldwide participated in this international session. In the concluding session of this session, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Dean, College of Engineering and Technology, welcomed the guests and said that the scientists of the Department of Soil and Water Engineering had made this session a success with their hard work and the name of the college and university Is illuminated.
