President of India Unveils Mahatma Gandhi Statue and Inaugurates 'Gandhi Vatika' in New Delhi

New Delhi - In a significant ceremony, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, unveiled a 12-foot-high statue of Mahatma Gandhi and inaugurated 'Gandhi Vatika' at Gandhi Darshan in New Delhi.
During her address at the event, President Murmu highlighted Mahatma Gandhi's universal impact and the timeless relevance of his ideals and values. She noted that Gandhi's commitment to non-violence came at a crucial juncture when the world was grappling with hatred and discord during the world wars. Gandhi's adherence to truth and non-violence elevated him to the status of a great human being, and his statues can be found in many countries around the globe.
The President pointed out that great leaders like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Barack Obama drew inspiration from Gandhi's path of truth and non-violence, recognizing it as a route to global welfare. She emphasized that embracing Gandhi's principles can lead to the attainment of world peace.
President Murmu underlined Gandhi's emphasis on moral strength and sanctity in both public and personal life. According to her, Gandhi believed that violence could only be countered with non-violence, based on moral fortitude. She stressed the importance of self-confidence, stating that it is a prerequisite for resolute action in adverse circumstances, particularly in today's fast-paced and competitive world.
The President asserted that Gandhi's ideals and values continue to hold immense relevance for India and its society. She called upon citizens, especially the youth and children, to read and internalize Gandhi's teachings. President Murmu recognized the vital role played by institutions like Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti in spreading awareness of Gandhi's life and principles through various mediums such as books, films, seminars, and cartoons. She expressed her belief that these efforts would contribute.
