MLSU ON THE MOVE AS VISIONARY Prof. AMARIKA SINGH TAKES OVER

Firm determination, deep commitment, great vision, creativity and concern for others are some qualities that are difficult to find in one person. However, Prof.Amarika Singh V.C, MLSU, has all of them and many more. No wonder MLSU has seen several positive changes during a short period of eight months of his tenure. Open-minded Prof. Singh started interaction with the teaching faculty, students, alumni, office staff and parents in the very first month of his taking up his new assignment And this enabled him to analyze the problems and decide the line of action. He opened his doors to everyone who had any grievance and the result is that there have been no strikes or agitation.Over one hundred persons were selected and asked to submit details of their achievements. Ninety-eight persons were confirmed in one day.He feels that Ph.D. holders have much better chances of getting jobs. That is why the number of research projects has gone up to 170. Out of 2 lac students, about 48,000 belong to S.T. and S.C. if the number of Ph.D. seats for these tribal categories is increased, a larger number of them will get good jobs, and that in turn would inspire others to take up research. He is trying to get 200 seats reserved for them. Now the Board of Management also has one member of the tribal community. It is also proposed to build a tribal family hostel with fifty rooms where students and their parents would be able to live together. TalkingabouttherecentlylaunchedNewEducation Policy, he says that the University organized 175 webinarsfordiscussionsanddissemination.According to him, the main thrust is on making education joboriented. The University has designed no less than ninety-six such courses.All efforts have been made to provide employment and income. For example, the women of Kailashpuri make flower garlands and Gajras for marriages that hotels take. Over two hundred Adivasi boys have been trained how to work at petrol pumps. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, musical instruments are be made, and training in playing them is being provided. The Arts and education Depts of the University go out to the villages to teach different skills. Efforts are also being made to get rid of social evils like divorce. Prof. Singh keeps in constant touch with industries in the neighboring areas like cement so as to explore the possibility of the placement of his students there. He believes that one should lead others by settingone'sexample.That's why he takes his classes regularly and also walks into other classrooms and teaches about important issues liketheenvironment. This has enthused the faculty to take regular classes. Deeply concerned about pensioners, he not only interacts with them frequently but is also trying to pay them regularly. HisUniversity'swebsitehascompletelyupdated information about results, degrees, etc. No wonder it has become the best website among universities in the state.Meetings of the Academic Council are held every month. The finances of the University have gone up to 58 crores from 42 crores.His advice to rural students is to take all the precautions against Covid. The University has already distributed over 150,000 masques. Parents should realize the importance of education and see to it that their wards attend classes and studies regularly.Prof. Singh’s dream is to make his University the best in the country by 2022 and the best in the world by 2023 when his tenure is over.
