Dungarpur: The Social Justice and Empowerment Department is facing challenges in the physical verification process due to the thumb impressions of elderly individuals in rural areas not being obtained. Despite repeated appeals and awareness campaigns by the department, the beneficiaries of various pension schemes in Dungarpur district, totaling more than 48 thousand,havenotundergone annual verification even after the extended deadline. Concernedaboutthependingverificationsofasignificant number of beneficiaries, the governmenthas instructedthe department to expedite the process of biometric verification promptly. If beneficiaries fail to complete the verification by the extended deadline, there is a possibility of pension disbursement issues for thousandsinFebruary.Additionally, those with halted pensions may have to go through a new application process. Dungarpur district has 210,485 individuals receiving pensions under the Social Security Pension Scheme for the elderly, widows, and specially-abled. So far, 76.92% of pensioners have undergone annual verification,accounting for 161,896 individuals. However, 48,589 beneficiaries have yet to complete the annual verification process. The slow pace of verification has prompted the government to extend the deadline to January 31. Thedistrictisurgedtoexpedite the biometric verification process to avoid potential disruptions in pension disbursement.
