13th South Asian Games: Indian men's volleyball team enter final; Beating Sri Lanka 3-1 in Semis

Indian men's volleyball team has entered the final of the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu. In a thrilling first semifinal, India defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 today.

There was a neck-and-neck competition between the two teams. In the first set, Sri Lankan players gave a tough fight but India won it 27-25. India also won the second set 25-19. But, in the third set, Sri Lankan bounced back and won 25-21. India won the fourth set by 25-21 and stormed into the final.

India will now take on the winner of second semifinal which will be played between Pakistan and Bangladesh in a short while from now.

Indian women's team has already reached the final, beating the Maldives 25-14, 25-6, 25-17 in the semi-final yesterday. India will now take on hosts Nepal in the summit clash on Tuesday. Nepal reached the final after defeating Sri Lanka 25-14,25-18, 25-21.

The opening ceremony of the Games will be held in Kathmandu this evening. Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari will declare open the biggest sporting extravaganza of South Asia.

During the 10-day event, over 2,715 athletes will compete for 1,119 medals, including 319 Gold, in 26 game categories.

As many as 487 athletes from India are participating in the games. The closing ceremony will be held on 10th of this month.
