VISUALLY IMPAIRED ACTORS SPELLBIND SPECTATORS VILAS JANVE : Most celebrated story of Munshi Premchand ‘Idgah’ has been staged throughout the country in different languages by different theater groups. But in Darpan auditorium of Shilpgram witnessed this drama with difference on last Sunday during ‘Rangshala’(monthly drama event) organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur. The play ‘Jasha e Id’ based on ‘Idgah’ was



jointly directed by Bharat Ratna Bhargav and Ashok Banthia. The theme of play revolved to the deep affections of Hamid, a poor boy for his grandmother Ameena. On the festive occasion of Id, Ameena gives 3 paise to her grandson Hamid to spend on anything he likes. All his friends purchase toys and allurements, some spend on sweets, some enjoy rides, but Hamid prefers to buy ‘Chimta’. Other

children laugh at Hamid for his crazy act, but Hamid utilizes hard earned money of his grandma on buying Chimta for her only as while making chapattis her old finger tend to get burns. The last scene, when Hamid presents Chimta to his grandma, she scolds at same time hugs him, brought tears in the eyes to all the viewers. Any sensitive human being would sob on such emotional moments created by visually impaired children. Rohit Prajapat(Hamid)and Anjali Sahu(Ameena) did their best and left indelible impact through their natural acting. Akash Sharma(Thullu Miya) brought humor and

helped in reducing tension. Music by Dr. Prem Bhandari and songs by Gurvinder Singh Puri,Deen Dayal Sharma and Shankar played major role in maintaining the moods of the play. Assistant Director Preeti Dube and Coordinator Neelu Premchandani also deserve praise along with the actors team comprising Lalita Meena, Sonam Meena,Bharti Dangi,Meenal Kandelwal,Asha Kumawat,Munni Mahavar,Shakuntala Meena,Pintu Sharma,Anuj Kulshrestha,Lokendra Singh Shekhawat,NazimHussain,Hemant

Sharma,Manoj Gurjar and Lakshman Saini. Bharat Ratna Bhargav and Ashok Banthia jointly wrote the play ‘Jashna e Id’ based on famous story ‘Idgah’( by Munshi Premchand) for the students of ‘Rajasthan Netraheen Kalyan Sangh,’ Jaipur. With rehearsals of 25 days, both the Directors produced this drama. ‘It was a challenging task to get proper emotions and moods, but visually impaired children learned by listening dialogues with appropriate voice modulations’, said Ashok Banthia, ‘ I learned behavior of these children by interacting with them and slowly explained their respective

roles. It was very interesting experience for me’, he added. Bharat Ratna Bhargav explained

how these children reacted to the situations in the process and rehearsals. West Zone Cultural Centre has been organizing socio- cultural activities like ‘Umang’ and ‘Udaan ’earlier also, Staging of “Jashna e Id” is a new feather in the cap and of course a welcome venture
