Skill Building for Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security

Jaipur: UNFPA and IIHMR University, Jaipur jointly conducting an international training program on "Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security"for two weeks in IIHMR Jaipur. At the inaugural session, Prof. PR Sodani, Dean Training at IIHMR University informed that,"the major objective of this training course is to better understanding the program management, monitoring and evaluation skills to manage the Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security; and to develop competences of effective advocacy, networking and strategic thinking."
Prof Sodani further shard that 25 participants from seven countries namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste are attending this program. The participants included senior professionals working with Ministry of Health and UNFPA. Prof.
Vivek Bhandari, President of IIHMR University in his inaugural address shared the vision of IIHMR and working towards improving the quality of life of the population globally. He further highlighted that IIHMR with its base in knowledge management would work closely with the UNFPA for improving the Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security.
Dr. Annette Sachs Robertson, Country Representative, UNFPA Indonesia in her key note address highlighted that this is the only program available globally so comprehensive and integrated and in the context of rights based family planning approach. She further highlighted that there is a great need for skill building of professionals working with governmental and non-governmental organizations towards managing the family planning and reproductive health program with rights of the women context. The joint efforts made by IIHMR and UNFPA in designing this program would be immensely helpful for enhancing the program management.
Dr. Vinit Sharma, Regional Technical Adviser - RH & RHCS, UNFPA Asia Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok, Thailand at this occasion shared that this is a very comprehensive program where program management as well as other important aspects such as quality of care, procurement, storage/warehousing, distribution, inventory control and analysis, logistics management, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and networking, strategy, etc are included in the course.

Dr. Kabir Ahmed, Technical Adviser, UNFPA New York shared that this is one of the unique program and based on this pilot, inputs from the participants would be taken to further improve the program for implementing it globally. Dr DK Mangal, Dean Research, IIHMR University, Jaipur provided vote of thanks.
