The Rajasthan government announced the auction of four limestone blocks and one copper block, on 5th July. This is keeping in line with the government’s agenda to push Rajasthan as a top mining destination in India. Director of Mines and Geology, Mr. Maru said, “these blocks are carefully selected based on industry requirements and preferences. They are also attractive in terms of block size, land ownership pattern and economics.”
Rajasthan is a cement production hub and new limestone mines will create expansion opportunities and give new players a chance to invest in the state. The copper block being auctioned – the first by any state in the country - is in Ajmer district. Geologists believe that there is significant potential in this block.
Besides these five blocks, the state government has readied four iron ore blocks and two manganese blocks for auctions. Mr. Maru said “We are investing in world class exploration capabilities as well as focusing on clearing all pending applications.” On behalf of the Directorate, he committed all necessary support to investors.
