Himani Khanna

My friend recently got engaged. We friends jumped over the bed and started discussing the groom. We expected answers for the regular questions like, what does he do, how much he earns, how big the family is and all. According to her, she had some specific reason for saying yes to this guy.
She started telling the story;
We mostly chat over the phone and the internet. He lives in Delhi. I will come to him later. Being the only child of my parents they have provided every facility to me. Right from sending me to the most reputed school in the town to the college of my choice they have given me the best possible education.
They supported me throughout my career. They let me drive the car to the office, and respect my relationships with my friends. Before leaving this house and such lovely parents I had to talk to this guy with whom I am going to spend rest of my life. I did not want my parents to continue the same for the rest of their lives to keep my life worry free.
My first question to him over the chat was, "I have seen boy's parents choose SAMAN (material) over the SAMMAN (respect)." Which kind of boy are you? After sending it I realized how rude it was to ask such a question. I received call from him asking that whether his parents made a demand. When I said no, he was relieved. I would tell you exactly what he thought.
He started telling.
During my job searching period, I asked my father to buy me some formal shirts from Blackberry's for my future interviews. He said no to me rudely as I would mostly roam alleys of the city with my friends on bike. I was not serious at all about my career as I was just a passed out and found joy in friend's company. He said, first make through the telephonic interviews and then I will give it a thought. I am not earning for a 25 year old and that too boy.
His answer pinched me a lot. I studied hard for the interviews and made it through. With my first salary I purchased two formal shirts from Blackberry's one for him and other for myself. He is a man of self-respect and taught me the same. I cried when he refused and insulted me, but that was just for one day. Think If I had not took him seriously and continued roaming with my friends, who knows I would weep lifetime.
My father and mother have started their lives from pin and never relied on anything. And I expect the same from you. If we get married, I want my wife to work for her dignity and pride. I do not want her to compromise for mere a lipstick or a designer Saree. She will get what she wants and on her own. Other than that I will be there as her secret santa for surprise gifts.
Her story ended and made us speechless.
So girls that was the time I decided this is the man I must marry. And next day I said yes to my parents.
What more I could ask for?
I hope this little yet inspiring story made you smile. Yes there are such boys and their parents. You just have to wait for the one.
