Jodhpur: After suffering for 18 long years subsequent to a child marriage at a tender age of just 10 months, 19 year old Urma Bishnoi has now got her freedom by child marriage annulment.
Urma Bishnoi who is from Jambanagar of Kaparda village of Jodhpur was locked in child marriage in 1999 when she was just 10 months to the boy of Kaparda village itself. The boy was allegedly involved in criminal activities. So the family was in terror every moment.
Threats to family-
After Urma became adult she refused to accept the child marriage. Her in-laws have started pressurizing her and her family. They had threatened with dire consequences like cutting their nose- ears and damaging them. Certain caste panchs also threatened the family of penalty and social boycott if the child marriage was annulled. Urma and her family members were quite frightened.
Support of Saarthi , Promise of Annulment-
Meanwhile, Urma got the information about child marriage annulment campaign of Dr. Kriti Bharti of Saarthi trust. Urma contacted Dr. Kriti for annulment of her child marriage. With the support of Dr. Kriti of Saarthi Trust, Urma filed her case of child marriage annulment in the family court-1 of Jodhpur. Dr. Kriti appeared on behalf of Urma and submitted documents relating to her age and others to the court.
After which Judge P K Jain while giving a stern message to society about evil of child marriage passed orders to annul Urma's child marriage.
Saarthi Trust-Leading in child marriage annulment-
Dr.Kriti Bharti of Saarthi Trust is associated with unique movement and had made the first annulment of child marriage in India and then after in 2015 she made annulment of two child marriages in 3 days of court proceedings and created a history. For that she found a place in the World Records of India, Unique World Records, India Book of Records and also in Limca Book of world Records and she also made many records in her social working field. These works are also included in CBSE curriculum. Trust has annulled 38 child marriages in India and also prevented thousands of child marriages and made different records. For such bravery act Dr. Kriti Bharti, has been honored with Marwar Ratan, Mewar Ratan and other national and international honors for saving the children from exploitation.
